Students in veils gathered around an open hive at a mountain apiary workshop

Princeton Apiaries · Spring 2027 Series

The HIVE Awakening & The Master's Apiary

Two tiers. One standard. Bees that survive.

Two workshops run at our Princeton yards in spring 2027 — hands in real colonies, not slideshows. The HIVE Awakening builds beginner Sentinels on seasonal mastery and 3H wintering; The Master's Apiary takes experienced keepers through a three-weekend queen-rearing intensive toward total apiary autonomy. Both carry forward the teaching lineage of Michael Palmer and Brother Adam: locally adapted stock, strong resource colonies, and honest observation before intervention.

The 3H Standard

Happy — temperament and queen quality. Healthy — mite load, brood pattern, disease pressure. Heavy — stores that carry the colony through a Similkameen winter without rescue feeding.

The LISTEN Protocol

Look, Interpret, Smell, Touch, Evaluate, Note. A repeatable inspection discipline that gets you the colony's story in minutes and keeps your smoker and hive tool from doing the thinking.

Tier 1 · Spring 2027 · $300 · Capped at 6

The HIVE Awakening

Beginner workshop — become a Sentinel for your bees

Have fun with your bees! We trade boring lectures for real-world storytelling and hands-on apiary action. Learn to read the hive's secrets, interpret ecological telemetry, and safeguard the superorganism with confidence.

  • Spring: rapid buildup, box reversals and swarm prevention
  • Summer: quantitative Varroa health audits and nectar flow management
  • Fall: consolidation, 2:1 feeding and winter-readiness
  • The 3H Standard — Happy, Healthy, Heavy colonies that survive winter
  • LISTEN inspection protocols for calm, confident hive reads
  • Master 3H wintering and never buy bees again

Schedule & What to Bring

  • Day 1 — 8:00–11:00 classroom theory · 12:00–4:00 in the hives
  • Day 2 — 9:00–11:30 and 12:30–4:00 in the hives
  • Suits, veils and tools provided — bring sturdy closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing and a packed lunch

Tier 2 · 3-Weekend Intensive · $400 · Capped at 8

The Master's Apiary

Advanced apiculture — the art, science & sustainability of total autonomy

Stop buying bees every spring and take permanent control of your apiary's destiny. This elite masterclass transforms you from a passive keeper into an autonomous Master-Breeder, propagating vigorous, locally adapted queens on the proven 3H methodology.

  • Production hives — high-output engines of growth and resource production
  • The Cell Builder — harnessing the hopelessly queenless state and swarm impulse
  • Nurse bee optimization — flooding queen cells with royal jelly
  • Double nucs & mating yards — thermodynamic heat-sharing for rapid mating flights
  • Sustainable genetics — a closed-loop system built on VSH traits
  • Weekend 1: Grafting Day · Weekend 2: Distribution Day · Weekend 3: The 3H Laying Audit

Schedule & What to Bring

  • Three weekends — theory 8:00–11:00 · field lab 12:00–4:00 each day
  • Grafting tools and gear provided — bring sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing and a packed lunch
